Basic Care for Bunnies

I'm a superb animal lovers.
I loved to watch how they react, their habits and the way they born to be.
However, during my 24 years of living, I have never getting myself any chance to explore more on what I desired, as my mom is allergic of having pets at home.

The day comes 3 year ago and nothing can stop me at that time. At first, I planned to have a family dog at that time, but due to location and budget constraints, I changed my target to bunnies. Since their body sizes are much smaller than dogs, I believed it would be much easier for me to adopt.

It's very important to choose a healthy bunny before you bought them home. I did not have any experience on selecting healthy bunnies, but the only thing I knew is we need to ensure they're active (running, eating, etc). Haha, for an exception case - I falled in love with Fatty at my first sight, as he is having a 2 different color tone on his ears.

There are few basic NEEDS we MUST know on our daily care to bunnies :

1. A suitable cage

2. Clean water and food

3. Avoid from heat or rain

4. Exercise

5. Partner / Spend time with them

Any ignorance or lack of above 5 basic needs may cause dangerous or death to bunnies.

It looks easy for everyone to fulfill the basic needs, but in reality, not everyone can meet their commitment. So, if you're thinking to have your own bunny or any pets, you really have to considerate whether you really have time to care for them.

Share with you a true incident which happen around me ...

My neighbour's son [at my hometown] was adopting a very cute puppy 2 years ago. And it's actually a homeless puppy. At first, the whole family was very excited to have their first adopted puppy and they'd spent a lot of times with the puppy. Good things do not last long. The puppy was growing up fast after 6 months. Guess what ? The family started not to provide food and water to the doggie sometimes for few days, all depend on their mood. The doggie barked madly, and merely begging people for food and water. I was so angry of their animal-abused action, and I'd tried to talk to them many times hoping for their consciousness. But, it's useless. My mom even climbed over the wall without being noticed (when the family was not at home) just to provide some food and water to the doggie. Can you imagine they're so cruel ?

Until recently, the whole family moved out, and they took the doggie to a far away isolated place. We did not know where is the doggie now and we never see it again.

I pray hard for the doggie. May its soul rest in peace.

It's Fatty's Turn !

You should have digested Blackie's star blog from where I'd posted yesterday, right ?
It's Fatty's turn now, and I'm going to show you how photogenic he is.

See, he heard what I said and now staring at me, huh ?

Open your eyes and watch out what he is doing ?

See my butt... I'm free !

Ouch ! My jaw is very itchy. Let the little wall friend help me here ...

Oh, what's that on the wall ? It's little high, and I need to stand up to look for it ...

Wait, I smell something here.

Huh ... I'm soooo tired. See, I started to lose my energy after playing for some time. Going to sleep tight soon. Goodnight !!

Blackie - Photos to Share ...

Share some cute and lovely photos from Blackie here ...

Date Taken : 10 July'08

Time Taken : 6 PM

Enjoy, and hope you like it :)

I was sooo surprised on the day when these photo was taken, as usually she will never standstill everytime I open her cage door. All the while, she is moving fast and I can't even catch her on my way.
Perhaps, she realized that I was holding camera on my hand, knowing that she would be the next STAR BLOG on that day.
I'm actually not profession in camera shooting, but amazingly, she was holding her STAR post and waiting for my snap. Do you believe ?
What a GENIUS bunny !!!

Diarrhea - Bunnies' Killer

Diarrhea -- Digestive problems , a random killer for Bunnies.

The alarm of Diarrhea -- their droppings are runny, messy and smelly.
Other signs to watch for are loud tummy growling, small and/or misshapen droppings or no droppings at all.

Take a look at healthy droppings from Fatty :

Can you imagine they look like small dark chocolates ?
Yuiks !!
But, this have become one of my dad's weekly bonus on growing his plant for extra vitamins. Do you believe ?

Yes, it is true...

Fatty had also suffered from Diarrhea before back to Year 2006.

He paid a visit to vet for treatment, and recovered within a week time by just taking some antibiotics.

Guess what, I couldn't believe he loved the taste of that antibiotics sooooo much !

The Death of Mixxy - Year 2005

I can feel the deepest depression from Fatty, who lost his best partner - Choco.

One month later of Choco's death, I have decided to get him a new partner - Mixxy.

Mixxy was more defensive than Choco, she dislike the smell of stranger.
During her first few weeks at her new home, she was shy and created lots of gap between us (my hubby, Fatty and myself). Everytime Fatty trying to approach her, she kept running on her toes.

"Now you see ?"

"Now you don't ?"
Yet, Fatty is always patience and lovely. He likes to be the way he is.

2 months later, come again the horrible nightmare for me.

Mixxy was suffered from serious Diarrhea [digestive problem].

She died 2 days after...

I was at the brink of collapse, hugging Fatty tightly, again.

The Death of Choco - My 2nd Adopted Bunny

Picture at Right : My 2nd Adopted Bunny Choco

I bought Fatty and Choco from one of the Penang famous pet shop on year 2004. She was under my husband's first spot. Without further hesitation, Choco had become one of our family team member ** Home sweet home **.
Sparkling moment and her charming was only last for 2 months.

She was killed by a wild cat during her play time with Fatty outside my house corridor. The corridor is not really exposed, but wild cat was smart enough waiting for the time to attack.

I did not realize it at all !!

The attack is cruel, she had a seriously injured on the neck, struggled for few minutes... There was no chance for rescue at all !

She was dead
.
.
.
I cried that whole night long, hugging Fatty tightly in my embrace. My hubby had cancelled his business trip to Singapore.

I keep blaming myself of my negligence. The tragedy wouldn't happen, if I could spend some time with their play time on that night.

Until today, I still cannot forgive myself...

Here She Comes ...

I'm Blackie. "Can you please let me in ?"

She is my fourth adopted bunny, after the death of the second and third one.

This picture was actually taken right after her 2 years old birthday.

She is new to anything and enjoy to be fun with me most of the time.
