"When I Was Young ..." - by Fatty

Video sharing - "When I was Young" by Fatty (Year 2005)

This video was taken 3 years ago, when Fatty was a 'kid'.

He was new to anything and like to explore himself to new things.

Attention : He thought the little black camera cover was his food where he can chew it off. But then he gave up, when hearing the background music, that he ran quickly into the house to check it out...

What They Eat ?

If you're cartoons lover for Looney Tunes - Bugs Bunny, you will realise that carrot is the brand for bunny. I'm not too sure, if this main food apply only on those wild bunnies which live in the jungle freely ? Or, the habit can be changed and differred from the adopted bunny ?
The reason I'm having this concern is, for Fatty and Blackie, carrot does not become their main food actually. Instead, it's only part of their "dessert" after every meal. Apple is also one of the favorite.

I'm providing 2 meals - breakfast and dinner for them daily. Which of course, most of the time they're earning some junk food or dessert they loved to. Timothy hay and pellets become their main food which contain high levels of fiber needed for a healthy and functioning digestive tract.

They are really non-stop eater, and loved to chew junk food at anytime. Don't really think of the junk food we bought from hypermarket. Huh ? It's not Mister Potatoes ! I'm talking about apples, carrots and guava.

So, I have to keep reminding myself to replenish their food warehouse twice a day sufficiently. Else, you will realise that you're missing your daily newspaper whenever you back from work after all. Because, they chewed it !!!

Brush & Clean Your Bunny !

It's a very important session to spend your time, at least once a week, to comb your bunny's fur. It's very common scene to have the owner clean up the fur for dogs and cats. But mostly people will ignore for bunny.

Can you imagine how the messy is, if you didn't comb your hair for a week ? Wow, people around you must be watching live show "The Lion King/Queen".

Here... use this comb. It's meant for your bunny !

I was actually quite busy with my working life, and always giving all kind of reasons on delaying the bunnies' shower day. I used to help them to take their shower 3 month 1 time, but now improve to once a month.

Make sure you do not use the dog or cat shampoo to bath your bunny, the contain is too strong and not suitable for bunny. I bought this with only USD $2.4 and I found it very long lasting on worth consumption.

Fatty actually quite enjoy the shower process, but not for Blackie. She is a bit nervous get close to the water, sprinkling on its body. Run, run, run ... She is trying to escape from the bathroom everytime. Hmm, but nothing can stop me from bringing her back to the "small pool".

And lastly, don't forget to cut their nails, as the long nails hurt you when you play or hug them.

This is actually a cat nails cutter, but I found it's very suitable for them.

Holding Bunny

I like to hug Fatty very much, and he loves my touch and care on him too.

Blackie might be a bit shy, where she doesn't really like much when you tried to hug her. But if you gently stroke on her head and backside, she is jumping into your arms to kiss you. Strange ?

Well, I noticed that some people is having the wrong way to hold or hug the bunny. I watch out few old Cantonese movie where people holding the bunny with its ears. Ouch ! It's pain for them. Remember not do follow in this way, as their ears are very sensitive to anything. And it might be killing them as it hurts and the little tiny ears cannot support their weighty body.

Actually, the correct way to hold them is - one hand holding under the armpit and another hand support on the hip. Like this ... See, he will be much more comfortable.

And the last photo taken above, if you hug him like this, he will feel sleepy and it might be too relax for him ...

A Suitable Cage

It's very important to buy a suitable cage for bunny, as they will be homed during sunny or rainy days. I read some article online regarding the cage size for bunny before.
And of course for so called "long term investment", I bought quite a large size cage for Fatty. But you must make sure you have a space at your home to place the cage.

How to make sure or know whether they are comfortable in the cage ?

Here are some simple ways and tips to share :)

1.) The body size is at least 4 times smaller than the cage size. Look at Fatty at his cage on picture below. The cage is measured in 60cm x 46cm x 52cm. And with its body size of 30cm x 12cm, this should be much more fitting and comfortable to him. At least he can twist his shoulder and release his legs. Imagine if the cage size is small, he can't even sleep tight without the space. That's cruel !

2.) Don't forget you also need to include food and water into the cage. They cannot survive without this 2 basic needs !!

3.) Ventilation - they need to have fresh air. What if they are sleeping in the covered box, do you think they can breathe huh ?

4.) Make sure their door are not locked ! Fatty will open the door itself, whenever he know that if it's time to replenish his food and water, and when it's their playtime. So, don't lock the door ! Let them have their own time.

5.) Cleanliness is very important for them, as bunny always ensure they're clean all the time. I wash the cage EVERYDAY, else the odor will stick to them which make them so uncomfortable. I remember last year I went for one week trip to Taiwan, my sister only help to wash the cage twice on that week. Guess what ? Fatty and Blackie lost their weight for almost 1 kg !!!

6.) Do not put the cage direct to the sunlight or rain. But if you really have no choice to, make sure you covered the top of the cage.

Basic Care for Bunnies

I'm a superb animal lovers.
I loved to watch how they react, their habits and the way they born to be.
However, during my 24 years of living, I have never getting myself any chance to explore more on what I desired, as my mom is allergic of having pets at home.

The day comes 3 year ago and nothing can stop me at that time. At first, I planned to have a family dog at that time, but due to location and budget constraints, I changed my target to bunnies. Since their body sizes are much smaller than dogs, I believed it would be much easier for me to adopt.

It's very important to choose a healthy bunny before you bought them home. I did not have any experience on selecting healthy bunnies, but the only thing I knew is we need to ensure they're active (running, eating, etc). Haha, for an exception case - I falled in love with Fatty at my first sight, as he is having a 2 different color tone on his ears.

There are few basic NEEDS we MUST know on our daily care to bunnies :

1. A suitable cage

2. Clean water and food

3. Avoid from heat or rain

4. Exercise

5. Partner / Spend time with them

Any ignorance or lack of above 5 basic needs may cause dangerous or death to bunnies.

It looks easy for everyone to fulfill the basic needs, but in reality, not everyone can meet their commitment. So, if you're thinking to have your own bunny or any pets, you really have to considerate whether you really have time to care for them.

Share with you a true incident which happen around me ...

My neighbour's son [at my hometown] was adopting a very cute puppy 2 years ago. And it's actually a homeless puppy. At first, the whole family was very excited to have their first adopted puppy and they'd spent a lot of times with the puppy. Good things do not last long. The puppy was growing up fast after 6 months. Guess what ? The family started not to provide food and water to the doggie sometimes for few days, all depend on their mood. The doggie barked madly, and merely begging people for food and water. I was so angry of their animal-abused action, and I'd tried to talk to them many times hoping for their consciousness. But, it's useless. My mom even climbed over the wall without being noticed (when the family was not at home) just to provide some food and water to the doggie. Can you imagine they're so cruel ?

Until recently, the whole family moved out, and they took the doggie to a far away isolated place. We did not know where is the doggie now and we never see it again.

I pray hard for the doggie. May its soul rest in peace.
