Vegetable Ball and Fruit Cake

I went for holiday in KL last few weeks ago, and grab the opportunity to get some snacks for Fatty and Blackie for a good try.

I was not dare to buy brand new food for them before this, since the last incident always alarming me it's really not easy to adopt baby bunny until they become mature. They cannot simply what they want when they're young!

Here' s the healthy snacks I brought home from one of the famous pet shop nearby.

They're quite cheap, only about USD 1.90 each pack (100% natural).

It consists of three colors : orange [carrot], yellow [corn] and green [mix vege].
It contains a lot of vitamins and nutritious which helps to improve appetite.

Guess what, they are always reaching at the level of greedy. With this extra nutritious, it's improve a lots of the good appetite and they become stronger in this short period.
Sometimes, they even grab the food with each other when they finish their own food.

Wow, this is so called "The Power of Food Temptation" !

Greedy Bunny

I was joking with my hubby last night that whatever under our adoption will be greedy creatures. He stopped a while and think... That's really a fact that Fatty, Blackie, Xiao Yu are non-stopping eater. I was wondering is this something related to the fate on our pets, because the owner [me] is also the same kind, who might be even more greedy. Hahaha...

In Chinese dictionary, people said : "食得是福 "。 We should always appreciate and thankful of the food we have everyday. There are thousands of people starving in this world, whom we may never know.

Blackie is really a traditional non-stop eater. Whenever you replenish the food to her bowl, she will continue to chew, slowly. Look at the way she enjoy her deserved food. She always stay on focus and watchful, yet still very enjoy the food.

"Hey, what do you want from me ? That's my food."

"Keep away the camera from me. I'm busy chewing ..."

Shaking Nose

Before I fall myself interested on bunny years back, I wasn't aware that bunny is having such a cute "shaking nose".
If you could really spend some time to observe, you will be surprised of their super fast shaking nose movement.
Check it out from the video below.
Question : How many times Fatty shake the nose for every single second ?
You will find the answer at the right bottom side of this blog.

You might want to check out the Genius Bunny's World Record, what is the fastest shaking nose record in 15 seconds time ?

Cool !!!

39 times shaking in 15 seconds

Open the door

Have you see bunny open the door and running out from the cage all by themselves ?
Check this out.

When he knew you're outside the cage and calling him, he will just open the door by himself and running towards you.

He bite the grind cage door, pretending it's so hard to escape.
Next, he will just push the door upward using the teeth.

It's just a simple 2 step.

Talented Fatty

Last 2 night, I'd spent my night time watching DVD at home with my hubby. The movie started from 9PM, and ended up at about 11.15PM. I was tired after all, and my mind was totally blank at that time. We went to sleep right away.

The next day morning, I was rushed to office, since it's a bit late for me to wake up. And when I went back home in the evening, something is not right happen...

Fatty totally did not bother me at all. I gave him the food, carrot, and even Blackie lay aside with him also useless. He didn't want to eat and drink at all. I was wondering if he was sick ? After some time, I brought him inside the living room and tried to play around with him. Hoping he is getting fine. Slowly, 15 minutes... 30 minutes past. He started to gain back his energy and slowly chewing some pellet. I keep go round and round on him, and finally, he is back to normal.

The way he look into my eyes, was telling me : "Do not leave me alone while you're watching your TV!"

I couldn't believe that Fatty was such a talented bunny. Though he was sick, in fact he is not. He is trying to get our attention and care on him, even when we're busy.

What a bunny!

Little New Friend - Gold Fish "XiaoYu"

Yesterday, I went to the pet shop looking for a Gold Fish. After some discussion with my hubby on some little knowledge digging from one of the famous Fengsui book guidelines, we decided to get a gold fish for our home base office room.
Yes, and of course, I'm just using this as an excuse to get a new friend for Fatty and Blackie. But since they're not from the same group of family, I couldn't force much on getting them having the same good time together.
Hmm, actually I still didn't have a chance for them to meet up, since it's already quite late when I reach home last night. However, I get myself a chance to name it as XiaoYu (means small fish in Mandarin).
To be honest, I'm not expertise in the "Fish world". But for the very common and basic knowledge, this should not beat me up.
Here's the photo taken last night. It's a bit blue, perhaps, the "sea is blue" ? May be one day, Fatty and Blackie will become a good swimmer ...
Video to share.

Beautiful Chest

Animal just like human. When we're young, we're still in the process of growing and hormone is yet waken up. Until reaching certain age level(it depends on individual growth), body hormone started to change. Same to bunny.

See below. Before Blackie growing up, she was only few months old. What can you expect from a '10 years old girl' ? However, there is nothing to lose if you compare the BEFORE and AFTER.

Now, take a look again after 3 years. She has now at the mature stage. Shines and showing her beautiful chest !

Wait! I just want to remind you.

Chest does not mean Breast !!!

Huh... don't be too lust before you jump into the conclusion.

Female bunnies' breasts were hidden underneath their body. I will try to catch some pictures some day...

"When I Was Young ..." - by Fatty

Video sharing - "When I was Young" by Fatty (Year 2005)

This video was taken 3 years ago, when Fatty was a 'kid'.

He was new to anything and like to explore himself to new things.

Attention : He thought the little black camera cover was his food where he can chew it off. But then he gave up, when hearing the background music, that he ran quickly into the house to check it out...

What They Eat ?

If you're cartoons lover for Looney Tunes - Bugs Bunny, you will realise that carrot is the brand for bunny. I'm not too sure, if this main food apply only on those wild bunnies which live in the jungle freely ? Or, the habit can be changed and differred from the adopted bunny ?
The reason I'm having this concern is, for Fatty and Blackie, carrot does not become their main food actually. Instead, it's only part of their "dessert" after every meal. Apple is also one of the favorite.

I'm providing 2 meals - breakfast and dinner for them daily. Which of course, most of the time they're earning some junk food or dessert they loved to. Timothy hay and pellets become their main food which contain high levels of fiber needed for a healthy and functioning digestive tract.

They are really non-stop eater, and loved to chew junk food at anytime. Don't really think of the junk food we bought from hypermarket. Huh ? It's not Mister Potatoes ! I'm talking about apples, carrots and guava.

So, I have to keep reminding myself to replenish their food warehouse twice a day sufficiently. Else, you will realise that you're missing your daily newspaper whenever you back from work after all. Because, they chewed it !!!

Brush & Clean Your Bunny !

It's a very important session to spend your time, at least once a week, to comb your bunny's fur. It's very common scene to have the owner clean up the fur for dogs and cats. But mostly people will ignore for bunny.

Can you imagine how the messy is, if you didn't comb your hair for a week ? Wow, people around you must be watching live show "The Lion King/Queen".

Here... use this comb. It's meant for your bunny !

I was actually quite busy with my working life, and always giving all kind of reasons on delaying the bunnies' shower day. I used to help them to take their shower 3 month 1 time, but now improve to once a month.

Make sure you do not use the dog or cat shampoo to bath your bunny, the contain is too strong and not suitable for bunny. I bought this with only USD $2.4 and I found it very long lasting on worth consumption.

Fatty actually quite enjoy the shower process, but not for Blackie. She is a bit nervous get close to the water, sprinkling on its body. Run, run, run ... She is trying to escape from the bathroom everytime. Hmm, but nothing can stop me from bringing her back to the "small pool".

And lastly, don't forget to cut their nails, as the long nails hurt you when you play or hug them.

This is actually a cat nails cutter, but I found it's very suitable for them.

Holding Bunny

I like to hug Fatty very much, and he loves my touch and care on him too.

Blackie might be a bit shy, where she doesn't really like much when you tried to hug her. But if you gently stroke on her head and backside, she is jumping into your arms to kiss you. Strange ?

Well, I noticed that some people is having the wrong way to hold or hug the bunny. I watch out few old Cantonese movie where people holding the bunny with its ears. Ouch ! It's pain for them. Remember not do follow in this way, as their ears are very sensitive to anything. And it might be killing them as it hurts and the little tiny ears cannot support their weighty body.

Actually, the correct way to hold them is - one hand holding under the armpit and another hand support on the hip. Like this ... See, he will be much more comfortable.

And the last photo taken above, if you hug him like this, he will feel sleepy and it might be too relax for him ...

A Suitable Cage

It's very important to buy a suitable cage for bunny, as they will be homed during sunny or rainy days. I read some article online regarding the cage size for bunny before.
And of course for so called "long term investment", I bought quite a large size cage for Fatty. But you must make sure you have a space at your home to place the cage.

How to make sure or know whether they are comfortable in the cage ?

Here are some simple ways and tips to share :)

1.) The body size is at least 4 times smaller than the cage size. Look at Fatty at his cage on picture below. The cage is measured in 60cm x 46cm x 52cm. And with its body size of 30cm x 12cm, this should be much more fitting and comfortable to him. At least he can twist his shoulder and release his legs. Imagine if the cage size is small, he can't even sleep tight without the space. That's cruel !

2.) Don't forget you also need to include food and water into the cage. They cannot survive without this 2 basic needs !!

3.) Ventilation - they need to have fresh air. What if they are sleeping in the covered box, do you think they can breathe huh ?

4.) Make sure their door are not locked ! Fatty will open the door itself, whenever he know that if it's time to replenish his food and water, and when it's their playtime. So, don't lock the door ! Let them have their own time.

5.) Cleanliness is very important for them, as bunny always ensure they're clean all the time. I wash the cage EVERYDAY, else the odor will stick to them which make them so uncomfortable. I remember last year I went for one week trip to Taiwan, my sister only help to wash the cage twice on that week. Guess what ? Fatty and Blackie lost their weight for almost 1 kg !!!

6.) Do not put the cage direct to the sunlight or rain. But if you really have no choice to, make sure you covered the top of the cage.

Basic Care for Bunnies

I'm a superb animal lovers.
I loved to watch how they react, their habits and the way they born to be.
However, during my 24 years of living, I have never getting myself any chance to explore more on what I desired, as my mom is allergic of having pets at home.

The day comes 3 year ago and nothing can stop me at that time. At first, I planned to have a family dog at that time, but due to location and budget constraints, I changed my target to bunnies. Since their body sizes are much smaller than dogs, I believed it would be much easier for me to adopt.

It's very important to choose a healthy bunny before you bought them home. I did not have any experience on selecting healthy bunnies, but the only thing I knew is we need to ensure they're active (running, eating, etc). Haha, for an exception case - I falled in love with Fatty at my first sight, as he is having a 2 different color tone on his ears.

There are few basic NEEDS we MUST know on our daily care to bunnies :

1. A suitable cage

2. Clean water and food

3. Avoid from heat or rain

4. Exercise

5. Partner / Spend time with them

Any ignorance or lack of above 5 basic needs may cause dangerous or death to bunnies.

It looks easy for everyone to fulfill the basic needs, but in reality, not everyone can meet their commitment. So, if you're thinking to have your own bunny or any pets, you really have to considerate whether you really have time to care for them.

Share with you a true incident which happen around me ...

My neighbour's son [at my hometown] was adopting a very cute puppy 2 years ago. And it's actually a homeless puppy. At first, the whole family was very excited to have their first adopted puppy and they'd spent a lot of times with the puppy. Good things do not last long. The puppy was growing up fast after 6 months. Guess what ? The family started not to provide food and water to the doggie sometimes for few days, all depend on their mood. The doggie barked madly, and merely begging people for food and water. I was so angry of their animal-abused action, and I'd tried to talk to them many times hoping for their consciousness. But, it's useless. My mom even climbed over the wall without being noticed (when the family was not at home) just to provide some food and water to the doggie. Can you imagine they're so cruel ?

Until recently, the whole family moved out, and they took the doggie to a far away isolated place. We did not know where is the doggie now and we never see it again.

I pray hard for the doggie. May its soul rest in peace.

Diarrhea - Bunnies' Killer

Diarrhea -- Digestive problems , a random killer for Bunnies.

The alarm of Diarrhea -- their droppings are runny, messy and smelly.
Other signs to watch for are loud tummy growling, small and/or misshapen droppings or no droppings at all.

Take a look at healthy droppings from Fatty :

Can you imagine they look like small dark chocolates ?
Yuiks !!
But, this have become one of my dad's weekly bonus on growing his plant for extra vitamins. Do you believe ?

Yes, it is true...

**********************************************

Fatty had also suffered from Diarrhea before back to Year 2006.

He paid a visit to vet for treatment, and recovered within a week time by just taking some antibiotics.

Guess what, I couldn't believe he loved the taste of that antibiotics sooooo much !

The Death of Mixxy - Year 2005

I can feel the deepest depression from Fatty, who lost his best partner - Choco.

One month later of Choco's death, I have decided to get him a new partner - Mixxy.

Mixxy was more defensive than Choco, she dislike the smell of stranger.
During her first few weeks at her new home, she was shy and created lots of gap between us (my hubby, Fatty and myself). Everytime Fatty trying to approach her, she kept running on her toes.

"Now you see ?"

"Now you don't ?"
Yet, Fatty is always patience and lovely. He likes to be the way he is.

***********************************************************

2 months later, come again the horrible nightmare for me.

Mixxy was suffered from serious Diarrhea [digestive problem].

She died 2 days after...

I was at the brink of collapse, hugging Fatty tightly, again.

The Death of Choco - My 2nd Adopted Bunny

Picture at Right : My 2nd Adopted Bunny Choco

I bought Fatty and Choco from one of the Penang famous pet shop on year 2004. She was under my husband's first spot. Without further hesitation, Choco had become one of our family team member ** Home sweet home **.
Sparkling moment and her charming was only last for 2 months.

She was killed by a wild cat during her play time with Fatty outside my house corridor. The corridor is not really exposed, but wild cat was smart enough waiting for the time to attack.

I did not realize it at all !!

The attack is cruel, she had a seriously injured on the neck, struggled for few minutes... There was no chance for rescue at all !

She was dead
.
.
.
I cried that whole night long, hugging Fatty tightly in my embrace. My hubby had cancelled his business trip to Singapore.

I keep blaming myself of my negligence. The tragedy wouldn't happen, if I could spend some time with their play time on that night.

Until today, I still cannot forgive myself...

Here She Comes ...

I'm Blackie. "Can you please let me in ?"

She is my fourth adopted bunny, after the death of the second and third one.

This picture was actually taken right after her 2 years old birthday.

She is new to anything and enjoy to be fun with me most of the time.

Arghhh ... don't guess too hard who might be the lucky 2 dear ?

YES! They're my 3 years old bunnies.

Now, take a look. Aren't they so cute ?

~Fatty~

Look at his eyes.

Do you believe he is still struggling for his first date , but then I'm telling you he is failed ?

It's Year 2008 now.

Yet, Mission Impossible is still on the TV show ?!

Oops, here she comes ...

Where ? I will tell you more ...
